The area has some of the most beautiful beaches of Costa Rica. Among the most visited are Culebra Bay, Gulf of Papagayo, Playa Hermosa, Playas del Coco, Playa Grande, Playa Tamarindo, Playa Flamingo, Playa Avellana, Playa Brasilito, Playa Samara, Playa Nosara, Puerto Carrillo and others. It also has national parks (protected areas) and the Guanacaste Conservation Area, the largest National Park, and places like the caves of Barra Honda, Miravalles Volcano, and Rincón de la Vieja. Junquillal is a good example of beaches dedicated to ecotourism or low-impact tourism.
